"The question is not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" J.F.K

According to Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the flood in Pakistan has now affected the lives of over 20 million people. The United Nations has quoted the following about the situation : "The number of people suffering in Pakistan exceeds more than the combined of 2004 Indian ocean tsunami, the 2005 Kashmir earthquake, and the Haiti earthquake".(http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20100809/as-pakistan-floods/)

The U.N is one of the few major organization helping the situation in Pakistan. There are resources such as food and shelter being deployed to Pakistan as we speak. Food and shelter are the most important things right now, considering they are essential for surviving. Youth for Pakistan has a different motive. One that not only helps the people in Pakistan but everywhere in the world.

Our mission is to open a school in a Pakistani village. You might ask why we're not raising money for food/clean wate,r because the people of Pakistan don't have that. One of the most influential people in my life has always told me to chose your battles wisely, because to be honest- it is tough to solve all the problems in the world. So we are starting with the most important way we think we can help the people of Pakistan, through education.

Today we are getting our paperwork ready and making flyers/posters to advertise who we are, what our goals are, and why we are doing this. (Copies located at the bottom of this blog)

Our ultimate goal is raise 12 thousand dollars through fundraisers, donations, and planned events for the cause. This project will not be completed in a month or two, because as students of universities we have a lot on our hands as it is, but the project will be one of our priorities. After we have raised the set amount of money, we will purchase land in the Muzaffargarh District, because it is one of the largest city in which the flood hit and it has a very high illiteracy rate compared to the rest of Pakistan. After the land is purchased we will begin the construction of a school, the school will be run by the people of the local village (not chosen yet), and will also be maintained by the local communities.

As simple as this sounds it will not be easy, but we are determined. My co-partner and I have both come to an agreement that we will initiate this funding by donating 500 dollars each, bringing our total to 1000 dollars CDN. So now our goal is now 11,000 dollars CDN.

So starting today we will begin our project. We will be going around our neighbor hoods, asking people for donations, books, or any help they can offer. If you would like to donate through the internet or help please send your donation to us at :  contactyouth4pakistan@gmail.com.

You can also find us on Facebook, under "Youth for Pakistan". Any events or updates will also be done there.

Every country has its good days and its bad, some worse than others. As a humanity and a civilized society it is up to us to help those in need, when they don't have the means to help themselves. The people of Pakistan need our help, please find it in your heart to give a little for a very big cause.

Little girl in Pakistan, a clear victim of the flood.
